Air India expands Canada service with new Toronto-Mumbai route, upgraded aircraft

Air India is expanding its Canadian network for the winter 2026-27 season, launching a new non-stop route between Toronto and Mumbai while introducing its newest cabin products on flights between Toronto and Delhi.

The airline says it has begun deploying its new Boeing 787-9 aircraft on Toronto-Delhi flights, marking the first time Canadian travellers will have access to Air India's latest onboard experience.

The expansion includes a new seasonal, three-times-weekly non-stop service between Toronto and Mumbai, which will operate from Oct. 25, 2026, through March 26, 2027.

Air India said the route will add nearly 2,000 seats each week between Canada and India and make it the only airline offering direct service between the two cities.

The Toronto-Mumbai flights will be operated using upgraded Boeing 777-300ER aircraft featuring eight First Class suites with privacy sliding doors, 40 lie-flat Business Class seats and 280 Economy seats. The aircraft will also offer Wi-Fi connectivity.

Overall, Air India said it will increase capacity between Canada and India by 4,400 seats per month this winter while boosting premium seat capacity from Toronto by 71%.

Passengers travelling through Air India's hubs in Mumbai and Delhi will also have onward connections to destinations including Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Ludhiana and Vadodara.

Toronto to receive all-new or upgraded cabins

Air India currently operates 10 weekly flights between Toronto and Delhi during the winter season.

Seven of those weekly services will be operated using the airline's new Boeing 787-9 aircraft, featuring its latest cabin interiors. The remaining three weekly flights will initially continue using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft before transitioning to the new 787-9 beginning in January 2027 as additional aircraft join the fleet.

Once that transition is complete, all Air India flights to and from Toronto will feature either new or significantly upgraded cabin interiors.

According to the airline, the introduction of the new and refurbished aircraft on Toronto routes will significantly expand the availability of First Class, Business Class and Premium Economy seats.

“The launch of our seasonal Toronto-Mumbai service this Winter will provide travellers more choice and convenience at a time when many are travelling to reunite with family and friends.”

“At the same time, we are also progressively introducing our newest aircraft and the latest onboard products to North America, reflecting our intent to put our best foot forward in one of the world's most competitive long-haul markets.”

In the 2026-27 Winter season, Air India will operate a total of 20 flights each week from Canada to India, including 10x weekly from Toronto to Delhi, 3x weekly from Toronto to Mumbai, and 7x weekly from Vancouver to Delhi.
