Air Canada & partners host an amazing race
The Air Canada Race, a national travel agent competition hosted by Air Canada and inspired by the television series, The Amazing Race, recently took place in Britain and Scotland – the first time it was held outside of North America.
From June 12 – 17, 2015, 44 travel agents raced through London and Edinburgh, navigating through the destinations’ most famous landmarks. Working in teams of four, the competition was a mix of sightseeing, quizzing and photo challenges, with agents also competing for individual prizes.
In order to qualify as a participant, applicants had to take part in a contest open to more than 3,000 travel agents across Canada, which took place between January and March 2015. Every two weeks, agents received product information from Air Canada showcasing the event’s partners and sponsors, with a series of quizzes and the highest number of flights booked on Air Canada (agents earned a double entry for any flight booked to Britain) ultimately determining the 44 participants to run the race.
In the end, three winners were victorious: Lisa Gould of A. Nash Travel in Mississauga, ON placed third, winning two system-wide Air Canada tickets to anywhere in the world.
Second place went to Lou-Anne Fradshaw of Uniglobe Travel in Toronto, who went home with a five-night package for two at a luxury hotel in London, return airfare on Air Canada, a hop-on hop-off pass to the city, an oyster card, theatre passes and more.
And first place accolades went to Madalena Teixeira of Voyage Regence Inc. in Montreal, who, among other things, won a five-night luxury vacation to Scotland for two, which includes a five-star hotel, airfare on Air Canada and two three-day BritRail passes.
The Air Canada Race was done in collaboration with VisitBritain, VisitScotland, Air Canada Vacations, Rail Europe, Live the City and the travel trade.
