Air Canada has added expanded non-stop service to Ireland from Toronto and Montreal, with new seasonal Toronto-Shannon and Montreal-Dublin routes beginning in June 2018.
The airline is to transfer its existing Toronto-Dublin service from Air Canada Rouge to Air Canada mainline beginning on Oct. 29, 2017, with increased frequencies this winter and daily service next summer.
Seasonal Vancouver-Dublin service will also resume next summer, with an increase in weekly frequencies to five from three.
“With the right aircraft for the right market, Air Canada appears to have the luck of the Irish, and we want to share it with our customers,” Benjamin Smith, president, passenger airlines, commented. “Beginning summer 2018, we will capitalize on the growing traffic between Canada and Ireland and launch two new routes to Ireland, Toronto to Shannon and Montreal to Dublin.”
Members of the Canadian travel industry had expressed a desire to see expanded service to Ireland at a luncheon with Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar in Toronto last month, and Tourism Ireland’s manager, Canada, Dana Welch, welcomed the news.
“We are excited about the new routes and expansion of existing Air Canada service,” she said. “The increase provides a major boost for both leisure and business tourism from Canada to the island of Ireland.
“Tourism Ireland looks forward to working closely with Air Canada and the Shannon and Dublin airports to drive demand for the new flights. As an island destination, the importance of convenient, direct, non-stop flights cannot be overstated – they are absolutely critical to achieving growth in inbound tourism.”
