Barrie, ON-based Murdoch Travel has announced a strategic merger with Laking & Rhoades Travel Service – one of Barrie’s longest-running travel agencies.

This partnership brings decades of combined experience together under the Murdoch Travel umbrella, expanding their presence and deepening industry relationships across the Barrie and Waterloo regions.

Murdoch Travel also welcomes John Laking and Gord Hay (formerly of Hay’s Travel in Downtown Barrie) to the team in a mentorship capacity.

Laking and Hay will bring their leadership, deep industry knowledge, and years of client-focused experience to support Murdoch Travel’s advisors, reads a press release.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome John and Gord. Their reputations in our community are impeccable, and their mentorship will strengthen our team, our partnerships, and the travel experience we deliver to every client,” stated Jeff Clarke, president of Murdoch Travel.

John Laking, owner of Laking & Rhoades, added: “We’ve always believed in putting people first. Joining Murdoch Travel means we can continue that tradition, now with an even larger team and resources to better serve our clients.”

What this means for clients is “continued access to the experience and reliability Murdoch Travel is known for with ongoing personalized service for destination weddings, river and ocean cruises, and bespoke travel experiences,” the company says.

In operation since 1989, Murdoch Travel has been recognized as one of the Top 25 Agencies in Canada by TRAVELSAVERS for three years in row.

Laking & Rhoades, meanwhile, has been a “beloved fixture in Barrie’s travel community for decades,” known for its dedication to clients, deep industry contacts, and generations of travel expertise.

“Their decision to join Murdoch Travel ensures these strengths will continue to serve clients with continuity and care,” the agency said.
