Paris, the City of Light to discover
The Charm of Montorgueil

Paris, so much to discover!

During my visit to Paris, at every street corner, at every iconic monument, I felt transported into a world apart, where history and modernity mingle in a bewitching symphony. I must admit that I have a special affection for the beautiful city of Paris, since my son has been living there for about 15 years. I’ll tell you about the beautiful neighbourhood where he lives.

In each city I visit, in order to orient myself a little from the beginning of my stay, I always start by taking a bus tour with multiple stops. Hop-on, Hop-off.

I chose the Big Bus Tour:

Big Bus Paris (Uguette Chiasson)

Aboard the Big Bus, I discovered Paris from a new angle. I listened with fascination to the audio commentary that revealed the secrets of each monument. An enriching experience, it allowed me to see the city in a new light.

The Big Bus Tour in Paris offers a complete experience to discover the main sights and attractions of the city. You can stop at each place to visit these monuments before hopping back on the Big Bus to continue your tour. Here is an overview of what can be seen on a Big Bus Tour:

Iconic Monuments:

The Eiffel Tower: An iconic symbol of Paris (Uguette Chiasson)

The Eiffel Tower: An iconic symbol of Paris, the Eiffel Tower is a must on the circuit. The bus passes close to the tower, offering a spectacular view of this engineering marvel.

The Louvre: The bus runs along the banks of the Seine, offering a breathtaking view of the majestic Louvre Palace, the former royal residence that has become the largest museum in the world.

Notre-Dame de Paris: Despite recent events, Notre-Dame Cathedral remains one of Paris’s major landmarks. The bus offers a view of its imposing facade and famous towers.

The Arc de Triomphe: Located at the top of Avenue des Champs-Élysées, the Arc de Triomphe is a symbol of the greatness of France. The bus passes near this impressive monument.

Banks of the Seine:

Bridges of Paris: Crossing the Seine, the bus allows you to admire the many emblematic bridges of the city, such as the Pont Alexandre III, the Pont Neuf and the Pont des Arts.

The Seine Islands: The circuit also offers a view of the islands of La Cité and Saint-Louis, where there are historical treasures such as the Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Sainte-Chapelle.

The Picturesque Neighbourhoods:

Montmartre: The bus climbs to the top of the Butte Montmartre, offering a panoramic view of the city from the foot of the Sacré-Coeur. The picturesque alleys and street artists make this stage an unforgettable moment.

The Latin Quarter: The circuit also passes through the Latin Quarter, a historic district known for its lively streets, old bookstores and bohemian atmosphere.

Les Grands Boulevards:

Department Stores: The circuit crosses the Opera district. You will find department stores such as Galeries Lafayette and Printemps Haussmann.

The Opéra Garnier: The bus also passes the Opéra Garnier, a 19th-century architectural masterpiece, with views of its sumptuous façade.

My next activity was a magical cruise on the Seine:

The Seine (Uguette Chiasson)

Nothing beats a peaceful cruise on the Seine to discover Paris from a new angle. Admiring the bridges and monuments that line the river, I was transported on an enchanting journey through the history of the city. Between iconic monuments, romantic bridges and picturesque urban landscapes, every moment spent on the waters of the Seine offers a magical vision of the City of Light.

Along the banks of the Seine you will discover a multitude of historical monuments, such as the Hôtel de Ville, the Musée d'Orsay and the Conciergerie. Each building tells a part of the history of Paris, offering a journey through the centuries.

At the heart of the Seine are the islands of La Cité and Saint-Louis, where much of Paris's historical heritage is concentrated. The view from the boat allows you to admire the picturesque beauty of these islands, with their colourful facades and lively squares.

Shopping Parisian style, a whole experience!

The Lafayette Gallery in Paris (Uguette Chiasson)

Obviously, Paris is the capital of great designers, fashion and shopping. I can’t help but enjoy it.

Department stores, such as Galeries Lafayette and Printemps Haussmann, are located in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, more precisely on Boulevard Haussmann. This lively area is known as a shopping hotspot in Paris, attracting fashion and luxury lovers from around the world. Galeries Lafayette and Printemps Haussmann are institutions in the fashion world, offering an incomparable selection of renowned brands, from the latest trends to iconic pieces. In addition, the district is home to many great designer boutiques, where you can discover the most prestigious creations of brands such as Chanel, Dior and Louis Vuitton. Thus, the 9th arrondissement is the ideal place for a shopping getaway in search of Parisian elegance and refinement.

The Charm of Montorgueil

The Montorgueil district in Paris (Uguette Chiasson)

This is the neighbourhood I know best, since it’s where my son has lived for 15 years.

Of course! The Montorgueil district, located in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, is one of the most charming and lively districts of the capital. It is a real hidden gem, often unknown to tourists, but very popular with Parisians. What makes the Montorgueil district so special is its vibrant atmosphere. Montorgueil breathes life at any time of the day. Its cobbled streets are lined with quaint shops, lively cafés, traditional bakeries and colourful markets. Conviviality reigns supreme in this neighbourhood, where we see locals shopping, friends seated on the terrace and street artists at work. It is also a culinary paradise. Gourmets will be delighted by the diversity of gastronomic delights offered in Montorgueil. From artisan cheese factories to delicatessens and famous pastries, each address is an invitation to a unique culinary experience. There are also many restaurants offering varied cuisine, ranging from traditional French dishes to exotic flavours.

Despite its proximity to the tourist center of Paris, Montorgueil has preserved its authentic charm. Its small cobbled streets and historic buildings give the impression of going back in time, offering a getaway from the tumult of the modern city. It is a place where we like to get lost, stroll and discover hidden treasures at every corner. The Marché Saint-Eustache, a covered market that delights lovers of fresh products and regional specialties, is in the heart of Montorgueil. Delicious local products, colourful fruits and vegetables, mature cheeses and fresh flowers are offered in a friendly and picturesque atmosphere.

Despite its peaceful atmosphere, Montorgueil is ideally located close to many of Paris's major sights. Just a few steps away are the Louvre, the Halles, the Centre Pompidou and many of the capital’s other emblematic attractions.

In short, the Montorgueil district is a real gem in the heart of Paris, a place where you can fully experience the authentic atmosphere of Parisian life. Whether for a leisurely stroll, a shopping session or a gastronomic exploration, Montorgueil promises an unforgettable experience to all who venture there.

In Paris, other unforgettable discoveries

The Latin Quarter: At every corner of the Latin Quarter, I discovered a hidden treasure. Between old bookstores and bohemian cafés, I felt the effervescence of Parisian cultural life.

The Sacré-Coeur and Montmartre: Climbing to the top of the Butte Montmartre to admire the majesty of the Sacré-Coeur was a magical moment. In the picturesque alleys of Montmartre, I met street artists and colourful characters, plunging into the bohemian soul of Paris.
