With a potential job action on the horizon, the union representing some 4,600 flight attendants at WestJet and WestJet Encore have announced a “Day Of Action” in pursuit of a fair agreement. Over the weekend, CUPE’s WestJet Component announced two informational pickets that will take place at Toronto YYZ (July 12) and Calgary YYC (July 14) airports.

The European Union will step up efforts to address problems with its new border control system after airports and airlines warned the rollout was causing travel delays, according to a letter from migration chief Magnus Brunner obtained by AFP. The move follows industry concerns that the new Entry/Exit System (EES) has led to waits of up to five hours, raising fears of summer travel delays.

The Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) says it has completed more than 90 per cent of the action items assigned to the organization following recommendations from the Office of the Auditor General of Ontario. In a progress update released July 3, TICO said 91% of the action items directed specifically to the regulator had been completed as of May 31, 2026.

Alberta RCMP have issued an arrest warrant for a former Fort McMurray travel agency owner accused of defrauding customers out of nearly $500,000. Ujeer Ahmed, 58, is facing fraud and money laundering charges linked to allegations involving his former business, International Travel Services, which operated in Fort McMurray in 2019, reports say.

Destination Canada’s Board of Directors has announced that Meaghan Ferrigno has been appointed interim president and CEO, effective July 1, 2026. The update comes as Marsha Walden, president and CEO, retires from the Crown corporation to embark on a new chapter “focused on family, friends, and fun,” says a press release.

Canada and the Philippines have signed a new agreement aimed at strengthening tourism cooperation, marking another step in expanding ties between the two countries. The memorandum of understanding (MOU), signed in Vancouver on July 3, establishes a framework for the two countries to collaborate on tourism by sharing information, data and best practices to support growth.

Construction will begin in mid-July on two new Runway End Safety Areas (RESAs) at Billy Bishop airport (YTZ), marking the start of a federally-mandated safety upgrade that will bring the airport in line with current Canadian and international aviation standards. Required by Transport Canada, RESAs are cleared and graded areas located beyond the ends of active runways.

Philippine Airlines will expand its North American operations in November by adding more non-stop flights to Vancouver, Toronto, and New York. Starting Nov. 17, PAL will raise its Manila–Vancouver service from seven to 10 flights per week. Meanwhile, Manila–Toronto flights will increase from three to four weekly beginning Dec. 5.

Reports say Anko van der Werff, the chief executive of Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS), has emerged as the leading candidate to become Air Canada's next CEO. According to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter, the Dutch executive is the frontrunner to succeed Michael Rousseau, who announced in March that he plans to step down later this year .

Turkish authorities have denied entry to a cruise ship carrying early 2,000 predominantly gay men, citing concerns that the voyage conflicts with the country's moral and social values.
The 10-day Mediterranean cruise, organized by Atlantis Events, operated by Virgin Voyages, is scheduled to depart Athens on July 5. "It’s very concerning," said Rich Campbell, CEO of Atlantis, in an interview.
