Transat A.T. on Thursday (June 11) reported a second-quarter loss of $79 million, largely driven by a sharp increase in jet fuel costs. To help offset the financial impact, the airline plans to seek up to $150 million from the federal government's emergency loan program announced earlier this week.

In May, Canadian-resident return trips from the U.S. totalled 1.9 million, marking a 9.5% from the same month in 2025, reports Statistics Canada. Driven by an increase in return trips by automobile (up 15.1%), the increase in overall return trips from the U.S. in May 2026 marked both the second consecutive month of year-over-year increases. In contrast, return trips from the U.S. by air in May decreased 5.5%
