As flurries in the Greater Toronto Area loom, Toronto Pearson airport is rolling out its winter preparedness plan to keep runways clear so planes can take off on time. The airport shared its strategy on Tuesday (Nov. 26), highlighting a fleet of 161 snow clearing and deicing vehicles, 40 of which were purchased recently.

Flying to the United States? New U.S. regulations now force airlines to provide automatic refunds when flights are either cancelled or significantly delayed, and for other reasons, like lost luggage. The regulations apply to Canadian carriers, like Air Canada, WestJet and Porter, who are required to follow U.S. Department of Transportation rules.

The world of hospitality and tourism is mourning the loss of Mr. Gabriel Escarrer Juliá, honorary chairman and founder of Meliá Hotels International, who passed away early Tuesday morning (Nov. 26). He was 89. Escarrer Juliá presided the company for more than six decades, until handing over the baton to his son Gabriel Escarrer Jaume.

A Canadian who was set to fly from Toronto Pearson airport to Germany in October was busted by police for carrying 45 kilograms of cannabis. The marijuana, which police say had a street value of about $180,000, was found during an outbound baggage examination by the CBSA.

The Israel Ministry of Tourism (IMOT) has outlined a plan for restoring hospitality facilities that have housed evacuees during the war, and for revitalizing tourism. In a press release Tuesday (Nov. 26), the IMOT said Israel has shown “remarkable resilience” during the conflict. Minister Haim Katz has launched a strategy that allocates resources to restore hospitality facilities and prepare them to welcome international tourists.

Carnival Corporation has made changes to its global leadership team for Princess Cruises, Holland America Line and Seabourn. Gus Antorcha, currently president of Holland America Line, has been named president of Princess Cruises, replacing John Padgett. While Beth Bodensteiner has been promoted to president of the cruise line. Seabourn also welcomes Mark Tamis as its new president.
