More than three million people are without power across Florida after Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key on Wednesday night (Oct. 9) as a Category 3 hurricane. The storm initially brought winds of up to 100mph, reports says, downing power lines and causing damage. A hurricane warning is now in effect for northwestern Bahamas, including Grand Bahama Island, the Abacos, and Bimini.

The meetings and events industry is projected to flourish in 2025, according to a new report by Amex GBT, sharing key trends. The top five meetings and events destinations in North America for 2025 are New York, Chicago, Miami, Las Vegas and Dallas. New York, for one, has "leapfrogged Las Vegas" as the top meeting and events destination, the report says.

Passengers aboard a recent Turkish Airlines flight from Seattle to Istanbul, Turkey experienced a scary situation recently after their pilot became ill and died. Captain Ilcehin Pehlivan, 59, collapsed mid-flight, resulting in a second pilot and co-pilot taking over the controls, an airline spokesperson wrote on X.

Transat has consolidated its Canadian tour operator divisions and commercial activities, altering the face of its workforce, PAX has learned. Nicole Bursey, who worked at Transat for just under 15 years, most recently as commercial director, has left the company, a spokesperson has confirmed. Quebec-based Julie Sareault is now responsible for Transat's tour operator commercial efforts nationally.

The first ship will set sail in the fourth quarter of 2025, providing both meeting and incentive planners and the affinity market with elevated options for Europe’s rivers. After a six-month pause, Royal Caribbean has resumed visits to Labadee, Haiti, where the company operates a private beach. In March, the cruise line cancelled visits to Labadee due to Haiti’s deteriorating security situation. It appears things have now changed as Royal Caribbean's ships returned to the destination on Oct. 8, with Adventure of the Seas being the first.
