Florida is bracing for impact as Hurricane Milton intensified in the Gulf of Mexico Sunday night (Oct. 5). The storm may make landfall on the west coast of the Florida Peninsula as a Category 3, the NHC says. Naples Tampa and Fort Myers are all under storm watch. Meanwhile, Air Canada and WestJet have posted flexible rebooking policies to help travellers plan.

As Hurricane Milton intensified in the Gulf of Mexico over the weekend, brewing a storm that is now heading toward the west coast of Florida, some cruise lines have proactively changed some itineraries to avoid the system’s path. Royal Caribbean has altered itineraries for five ships to avoid the hurricane, while Carnival adjusts a Bermuda sailing.

WestJet is growing its service in Winnipeg by 21 per cent, the airline announced Friday (Oct. 4). This winter, WestJet will expand to serve 22 destinations out of Winnipeg, compared to 18 last winter, increasing capacity by 35%. Same-day itineraries for Manitoba's business community will be introduced., as well as flights to Atlanta, Los Cabos, Nashville and Fort Lauderdale.

Airlines must compensate travellers for international flight disruptions based on rules outlined by the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA), the Supreme Court of Canada decided on Friday (Oct. 4). The ruling upholds Canada’s Air Passenger Protection Regulations (APPR) after airlines appealed to have them made invalid for international flights.
