Air travellers breathed a sigh of relief over the weekend after a strike involving security screeners at Toronto Pearson was averted after the workers reached a tentative deal one day before a strike deadline. Nearly 3,000 officers, represented by the Canadian Airport Workers Union (CAWU), were set to strike at midnight Saturday (June 22)

Strike action has hit Canada’s aerospace manufacturing sector. Some 1,350 unionized workers at Bombardier in the Toronto area walked off the job on Sunday (June 23) after contract talks failed to result in a deal. Both parties have agreed to resume negotiations early Monday, the union said.

WestJet celebrated last night (June 20) its inaugural service between Halifax and Edinburgh with the departure of WS46 from Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ). The airline also welcomed the return of non-stop service between Halifax and Dublin on Wednesday (June 19).
