One of Flair Airlines’ biggest backers is reducing its stake in the Edmonton-based budget carrier one day after an Australian airline it owned was forced into insolvency when all of its planes were seized by a lender. On Wednesday (May 1), Flair revealed that Miami-based 777 Partners would be transferring part of its stake in the airline to an “affiliate” of one of Flair’s lenders.

TICO has released a Public Action Plan that addresses the value-for-money audit The Office of the Auditor General of Ontario conducted last year. “TICO is committed to transparency and continuous improvement," said TICO’s CEO Richard Smart, in a statement. The association has 23 action items that are on schedule for completion, and six items for which implementation dates are pending.

The WestJet Group on Wednesday (May 1) restarted flights between St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador and London (Gatwick). This summer, St. John's will gain a 35 per cent increase in seat capacity compared to 2023, and see regional and and leisure improvements. WestJet Group CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech was in St. John's yesterday.

Cunard's luxury new ship, Queen Anne, sailed into her home port of Southampton ahead of her maiden voyage to Lisbon on Friday (May 3).
She is the fourth ship to join the Cunard fleet and the 249th to sail under the Cunard flag.

Air Canada’s pilots have issued a statement after the airline on Wednesday (May 1) released its Q1 earnings, saying they continue to seek a contract that “is commensurate with pilots at U.S. legacy airlines.” The group says their post-9/11 pay cuts "have yet to be corrected."

The host agency has found a sweet spot on the calendar for hosting its national conference, which kicked off on Travel Advisor Day (May 1) aboard the Ruby Princess, on a voyage to Alaska. This year's "Trailblazing" conference, which doubles as a 30th anniversary celebration, has a delegation of some 400 people. It comes amid "booming" cruise sales. PAX reports on location.

Air Canada released its Q1 results on Thursday (May 2), reporting a loss of $81 million as operating revenue rose seven per cent from a year ago. Expenses increased as the carrier added seat capacity, which Air Canada says will rise by about seven per cent in Q2. Michael Rousseau, president and CEO, says the airline continues to see a "healthy demand."
