The Independent By Flight Centre name will be discontinued in Canada this May and rebrand as "Envoyage." While the Flight Centre brand has served the home-based model over the years, the company is evolving with a new identity - a "trusted name with an elevated look and feel" that will "clarify who we are," Anita Emilio, VP & GM of Envoyage Canada tells PAX.

Air Transat has announced that 62.7% of its flight attendants have voted in favour of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service mediators' recommendation. The Canadian Union of Public Employees says the agreement, which is retroactive to Nov. 1, 2022, makes Air Transat flight attendants the highest paid in the industry.

Virgin Voyages is cancelling its 2024-25 voyage season plans for Resilient Lady, impacting the ship’s second sailing season in Australian waters, due to conflict in the Red Sea. The line is also scrapping the ship's late 2024 and early 2025 repositioning voyages between Europe and Australia due to “unacceptable risks."

Porter Airlines will be upping its presence in Newfoundland this summer. In addition to launching the only non-stop Ottawa-St. John’s flight on the market, it will also introduce Deer Lake as a new destination, with service to Halifax. The routes begin in June.

Ontario-based Eleanor Bell of Direct Travel just celebrated her first year as a travel advisor. Her love for solo travel is what inspired her to join the trade. Bell wishes the travel industry took sustainability more seriously. It shouldn't be marketed as "a unique selling point," she says in today's Monday Minute. "It should be considered a fundamental standard of practice."

The cost of flying is going up. WestJet has raised its baggage fees, joining U.S. carriers, such as United, American Airlines and JetBlue, that have done the same. The moves come as airlines grapple with rising fuel costs and renewed labour contracts with pilots and other groups.
