Sun Princess inaugural cancelled again, days before departure

Princess Cruises has cancelled Sun Princess’ already-delayed inaugural voyage, which was set to depart this Sunday (Feb. 18), according to reports. The move comes less than a month after Princess cancelled the ship’s original Feb. 8 launch out of Barcelona due to delays at Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri.

ETC: European travel nears pre-COVID levels; Canada shows “significant” recovery

The European Travel Commission released its quarterly tourism update on Tuesday (Feb. 13), reporting that foreign tourist arrivals to Europe were 1.6% below 2019 figures in the final weeks of 2023. Across reporting destinations, nights were also 0.6% below 2019, and the demand is expected to continue into 2024.

Carnival Corporation has signed an agreement with German shipbuilder Meyer Werft to build a fourth Excel-class cruise ship for its Carnival Cruise Line brand. WestJet addresses possible aircraft delivery delays, refinances loan

Delays at Boeing could impact dozens of aircraft orders made by WestJet as the U.S. plane manufacturer continues to deal with the fallout of a door panel flying off one of its 737 Max planes operated by Alaska Airlines. Meanwhile, The WestJet Group has extended the maturity of the substantial majority of its term loan borrowings to 2031.

“Unacceptable gaps”: Ottawa responds to damning ArriveCAN audit

ArriveCAN was meant to control the Canadian border at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Auditor General Karen Hogan says federal agencies awarded contracts to build the app without bidding, maintained shoddy financial records and failed to deliver the best value to taxpayers. In response, Ottawa said Monday (Feb. 12) Hogan's report has identified “unacceptable gaps in management processes, roles and controls.”

Canada Jetlines expands to Halifax with Toronto & Orlando routes

Canada Jetlines will soon fly to Atlantic Canada, announcing Tuesday (Feb. 13) that it will launch new routes this summer that connect Toronto to Halifax and Halifax to Orlando, Florida. Set to commence operations in June, the new routes are designed to meet the increasing demand for travel to the East Coast during the summer months, the airline says.
