Air Canada Vacations (ACV) kicked off a series of breakfast seminars last week to connect with travel advisors across Canada and share highlights from its Europe collection, including information about its 2024 travel agent toolkit. “The response has been so positive,” Erminia Nigro, GM of sales at ACV, tells PAX. ACV’s strategy, this year, is “simple,” Nigro says. “To create awareness of just how much product ACV has in Europe."

Bali’s new tourist tax kicks in on Feb. 14

International travellers heading to Bali, Indonesia will be required to pay a new tourist tax starting Feb. 14. The Bali Tourist Tax applies to all foreign tourists, regardless of age. In Indonesian Rupiah, it costs 150,000 per person, which is about $12.95 CAD. The levy seeks to support initiatives aimed at preserving Balinese customs, traditions, arts, and the island's natural environment.

Judy Makara has left Barcelo (but not the industry)

After 13 years with the Barcelo Hotel Group, Judy Makara has left the company, PAX has learned. Makara was the brand's director of business development, covering all of Canada. Speaking with PAX, Makara said that 2024 would be a year of big changes, as she recently became a grandmother. Makara, however, isn't leaving the travel industry for good, telling PAX that she has accepted a new role elsewhere.
