CAA boosts travel medical coverage to $10M, adds flight delay benefits
CAA Travel Insurance, a product of Orion Travel Insurance, has announced coverage enhancements ahead of the winter travel season, including higher emergency medical limits, expanded extreme-weather protection and a new flight delay benefit.
Emergency medical coverage has increased from $5 million to $10 million, reflecting rising medical costs abroad, according to CAA.
New flight delay benefit
Eligible trip cancellation policies now also include the CAA Flight Delay Benefit, which provides an automatic cash payment or airport lounge pass when an insured flight is delayed by two hours or more.
The benefit offers immediate support without the traditional expense-based reimbursement process, subject to eligibility and policy terms.
“Today’s travellers face a broad range of risks, from flight disruptions and extreme weather to unexpected medical emergencies and events at home,” said Elliott Silverstein, director, government relations, insurance, CAA South Central Ontario.
“These updates deliver clearer benefits, broader protection and new forms of support to travellers when plans change unexpectedly.”
Expanded climate and disruption protection
CAA has also expanded its climate-related coverage, adding explicit policy wording explaining protection when a natural disaster affects destination accommodations or weather-related property damage at home disrupts travel plans.
New Major Travel Disruption coverage addresses eligible flight cancellations and unannounced strikes. Other enhancements include protection for travel documents stolen before departure or lost or stolen at a destination.
Additional covered circumstances include a stolen private vehicle, certain damage to a home or business, and extra occupancy costs when a travel companion interrupts their trip while the insured traveller continues as planned.
