Passport delivery by mail may be delayed due to Canada Post strike: Service Canada

Due to the Canada Post labour disruption, Canadians may experience delays receiving their passport by mail, if they’ve chosen to go that route.

In a post to social media on Monday night (Nov. 18), Service Canada noted that if you’ve requested mail delivery of a passport, and need it urgently, to visit a passport office for help. Click here for details.

As the busy winter travel season approaches, wait times may be longer at some passport offices right now, Service Canada warns.

Travellers can also call Service Canada at 1-800-567-6868 and ask for a transfer to allow for a passport pick-up.

Canada Post and its workers’ union began a fresh round of mediated negotiations as a nationwide postal strike entered its fourth day on Monday.

More than 55,000 Canada Post workers went on strike last Friday (Nov. 15), halting mail and parcel services across the country.

Some post offices have also been shuttered amid the labour action.

Both sides are at the bargaining table with a special mediator, Peter Simpson, who was appointed by the federal government last week.
