Vegas stars shine in Toronto

Last night, PAX got a little taste of Vegas entertainment right here in Toronto.

PAX joined David Han of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority for a fun-packed night starting off with dinner at the Momofuku Noodle House on University Blvd. Established by celebrity chef and founder David Chang in 2004, Momofuku has 13 restaurants in New York City, Sydney, Toronto, Washington DC, and now in Las Vegas.

“With Momofuku opening at the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas late last winter we thought this was the perfect opportunity to bring the Vegas experience to Canada while highlighting the city’s flourishing culinary scene and abundant entertainment options,” Han said.

After dining on delicious steam buns and beef brisket at the eatery’s third floor Daishō Restaurant, PAX headed to the Air Canada Centre, where Lionel Richie and special guest, Mariah Carey hit the stage and delivered a dynamic show featuring their famous hits. The concert was a natural tie-in to the evening as Lionel Richie heads back to Vegas in late November to kick-off a 14-show performance.

“Vegas remains the 'Entertainment Capital of the World' and is showing no signs of slowing down,” Han told PAX. “Our world-class shows draw in millions of visitors to the city every year and 2017 has been better than ever with an amazing line up of new and iconic performers. Lionel Richie recently announced new shows this fall as part of his Las Vegas residency at The AXIS in Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.”

In addition to world-renowned entertainment, sports is a growing focus for Las Vegas as well. The city’s new NHL team, the Vegas Golden Knights, will hit the ice this fall, with the NFL’s Oakland Raiders poised to relocate to Vegas in 2020. Most recently, on July 19, Las Vegas City Council members voted unanimously to approve the 15-year lease agreement between Cashman Field and Las Vegas Pro Soccer LLC, which will bring a United Soccer League (USL) expansion team to Las Vegas with play to begin in the 2018 season.

“Las Vegas’ USL Division II team will become the 33rd Club to join the league,” Han said. “Throughout the 2018 season, the team will compete in 16 regular season games at Cashman Field. In addition, Las Vegas Pro Soccer LLC will utilize the field for additional events including, but not limited to, exhibition matches featuring international soccer clubs and more.”
