There's no better time to come to California

During this year's IPW convention down in Denver, Colorado, Visit California delivered a series of key updates and findings for travel to California this year.

California continues to be a hot destination year-round, and tourism is booming to the sunny state.

In 2017, more than 273 million visitors came to the state, spending more than $132.4 billion, which represented a 4.8 per cent increase over 2016. The following new developments were presented to attendees at this year’s IPW:

Big things coming to Cali

  • International flights into seven gateways, accounting for 25.7 million passengers.
  • Investing more than $5 million annually to ensure flights are full
  • Installation of a cross-border express bridge: TIJ – SAN
  • HWY 1 will be reconnected and back in full operation by September 2019
  • Wine tours remain popular, with 12,000 wineries in Napa and Sonoma
  • 60 new hotels adding 17,000 rooms throughout the golden state

Perhaps one of the most exciting things to do when visiting California is taking California’s Dream Drive down Highway 1.

With a grand reopening in late summer 2018, visitors can once more embark on an epic road trip that can begin in San Francisco, Los Angeles, or Orange County, and span more than 1,000 kilometres of uninterrupted highway that boasts coastal view, redwood forests, and of course, mountains.

And, because no road trip is complete without making a few stops along the way, the Dream Drive lets travellers pass through a series of colourful towns and campgrounds that are packed with restaurants, bars, art galleries, and shops just waiting to be explored.
