Las Vegas: Fabulous new developments coming soon

As Las Vegas is forever and always changing, there’s quite a bit of excitement surrounding the city, especially as the Vegas Golden Knights come off of a fantastic season in their expansion year.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) visited Toronto yesterday (June 12th) at the BISHA Hotel Toronto for their annual travel and trade show. Knowing the importance of the Canadian market to the destination, twenty hotel and attraction partners were present at the BISHA Hotel Toronto on Tuesday.

“It seems like we’ve been at the centre of the sports universe at the moment and the sports scene in Las Vegas has really seen a huge growth just in the past year," said Fernando Hurtado, international market manager of the Americas. "Our games are beyond well attended when the Canadian teams are in town, taking up about a one-third of the building. I was lucky enough to be here when the Toronto Maple Leafs played on Dec. 31 and it was a great start to their New Year’s Eve festivities. We’ve had an incredible year and the future looks incredibly bright."

Already six months into the construction of the Las Vegas Stadium, which is a 65,000 seat complex situated on the south end of the Las Vegas strip, will be home to the Oakland Raiders, scheduled to move to Las Vegas in August 2020.

Hotels to watch

The SLS Las Vegas: Alex Philby, director of leisure sales, states the SLS is a unique property offering simplicity; 1,300 rooms with the atmosphere of a boutique hotel. Featuring the acquirement from new owners, the Meruelo Group, improvements have been scheduled to take the SLS to the next level.

American singer-songwriter Matt McAndrew performs live. He's best known for being the runner up on Season 7's The Voice, Team Adam.

MGM Resorts International: Joseph Hernandez, global sales manager, explains the biggest anticipation this year is Park MGM, spending hundreds of millions of dollars rebranding and renovating the property from what was the Monte Carlo. The Park Theatre will headline Ricky Martin, Bruno Mars, Cher and starting in December, Lady Gaga.

Caesars Entertainment: National Sales Manager Lisette Paries says there’s been a lot of changes including the completion of the $140 million transformation with 1,622 modern new guestrooms and suites in the Valley Tower at Harrah’s; a $90 million renovation of 1,270 rooms at the Flamingo; and the $100 million renovated Palace Tower at Caesars Palace, the resort's largest tower. The 29th floor now features ten luxurious villas.

The Cosmopolitan Of Las Vegas: New and exciting for The Cosmopolitan this year is the anticipation of the arrival of Red Plate, set to premier this summer. Red Plate is the concept of bringing together traditional Chinese cuisine in a sophisticated setting, which enhances the 3,041-room luxury resort and casino.

Canada is still the number-one market with inbound travel to the destination, with 1.4 million visitors, responsible for about 25 per cent of total overall international markets.

Toronto remains the primary gateway with 27 flights/week and a couple of weekly flights down the road in Hamilton as well.
