Canada is leading North American travel to the Dominican Republic, according to figures released by the Dominican Republic Tourist Board.
Travellers from North America comprised 58.3 per cent of total visitors to the country in July 2017, with the largest group of arrivals coming from Canada.
Overall, the country’s airports recorded a growth of 5.9 per cent in total tourists – both foreigners and non-resident Dominicans. Foreign tourists grew by 7.1 per cent – a figure predominantly comprised of Canadians, Americans and Mexicans.
The DR saw an annual increase of 3.6 per cent North American visitors – 71,505 more than the previous year. Of this group, 43,587 additional tourists came from Canada, 27,646 from the U.S., and 272 more from Mexico.
