Curaçao welcomes 18% more visitors in August
The Curaçao Tourist Board has announced double-digit growth in stayover arrivals, with an 18 per cent rise compared to August of the previous year.
In total, the island welcomed 58,291 stayover visitors in August 2024.
The last weekend of August saw a significant influx of visitors thanks to the Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival.
Preliminary data indicates that this edition attracted a substantial number of tourists, especially from Aruba, Suriname, Colombia, Brazil, the United States and the Netherlands.
20,935 Dutch visitors were registered in August, marking a 22 per cent increase compared to the 17,146 stayover arrivals in August 2023. Most of the Dutch visitors opted for non-resort accommodation (52 per cent), while the remaining 48 per cent stayed at a resort. The Dutch stayed for an average of 11.7 nights.
The U.S. continues to be a strong market, recording a 24 per cent increase from 11,834 in August 2023, totaling 14,703 arrivals in August 2024. The accommodation preferences for the U.S. market are resort hotels (69 per cent), while the remaining 31 per cent opted for other lodging options available on the island.
On average, U.S. visitors stayed 5.6 nights in August. They are primarily from New York, New Jersey and Florida.
The number of visitors from Colombia grew by 37 per cent, with 4,317 arrivals in August 2024 compared to 3,153 in August 2023. On average, Colombian visitors stayed 4.9 nights in August. In terms of accommodation choices, 54 per cent of Colombian visitors opted for resort hotels.
The first eight months of 2024 have shown impressive performance, with 464,017 stayover arrivals, representing a 24 per cent growth compared to the same period last year.
So far, Curaçao has welcomed 165,980 Dutch visitors and 120,078 visitors from the U.S. Colombia, Brazil and Canada registered 31,272, 27,981 and 23,505 visitors, respectively.
Counting cruise visitors, day trippers and stayover arrivals, a total of 1,042,754 visitors were registered from January through August 2024, a 23 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
