Bahamas tourism partners on day-trip flights to Bimini

The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation has teamed up with Tropic Ocean Airways to launch Bahamas In A Day, a same-day trip program to Bimini operating every Saturday starting Feb. 21.

Under the program, travellers check in at Tropic Ocean Airways’ private lobby in Fort Lauderdale about 30 minutes before departure, fly out in the morning and land on the water at North Bimini Seaplane Base by 9:00 a.m. 

Guests spend eight hours on the island before returning to South Florida by early evening.

The day-trip program is designed to highlight how quickly travellers can reach The Bahamas from South Florida.

To mark the launch, the trip is being offered at a promotional rate of $550 per person—a $100 savings from the standard launch price of $650—for bookings made before March 1.

"You don’t need a full week off or a complicated travel plan to experience the Bahamas," said Jason Schmidt, CEO at Tropic Ocean Airways. 

"You can wake up in South Florida, be on a beach in Bimini 25 minutes later, explore the island, and still be home for dinner. We’re taking something people assume requires a lot of time, planning, and money — and making it easy, spontaneous, and accessible."

Honorable Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation echoed that focus on speed and accessibility, pointing to the short flight time as key to the partnership.

"This partnership with Tropic Ocean Airways represents more than just a new flight path; it’s a total reimagining of how accessible our islands can be," he said. 

"By providing the opportunity to get from South Florida to The Bahamas in a mere 25 minutes, we are removing the traditional barriers to international travel. We’re providing a seamless, premium gateway that allows our guests to prioritize their time while still experiencing the full depth of Bahamian hospitality."

Bahamas In A Day itinerary

• 8:30 a.m. — Depart Fort Lauderdale
• 9:00 a.m. — Land in Bimini
• 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. — Island time
• 4:30 p.m. — Return to the Tropic Ocean Flight Center
• 5:00 p.m. — Depart Bimini
• 5:30 p.m. — Arrive back in Fort Lauderdale

Guests spend eight hours on the island and return home in time for dinner.

• Round-trip seaplane flight (25 minutes each way)

• Access to a private lobby with Wi-Fi, snacks and beverages
• Guests can add optional experiences (seasonal availability), including snorkeling at Honeymoon Harbour, bonefishing with local guides, guided hammerhead shark dives, and swimming with wild dolphins. Other options include exploring by golf cart, beach club access, and time on the beach.

The launch coincides with The Bahamas serving as Destination Sponsor of the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, where the day-trip program will be introduced. 

During FoodieCon on Feb. 21, a limited number of discounted day trips will be available exclusively at the event, and each booking will include a curated swag bag.
