WestJet Rewards expands to Sunwing Vacations with points, tier benefits

WestJet Rewards is expanding its loyalty benefits to Sunwing Vacations, giving members more ways to earn points and qualify for status when booking vacation packages.

Effective immediately, WestJet Rewards members who purchase eligible Sunwing Vacations packages can earn WestJet points, tier qualifying spend and milestone qualifying spend. Silver, Gold and Platinum members will also receive select day-of-travel benefits when flying with WestJet as part of their vacation package.

"Fully integrating Sunwing Vacations into the WestJet Rewards program is an exciting step forward in delivering even greater value for Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast," said Steve McClelland, WestJet’s vice-president, loyalty and strategic partnerships, in a press release.

"We're creating more opportunities for members to turn travel and everyday spending into meaningful rewards, helping them get to their next vacation sooner and make the most of their travel experiences."

Under the expanded program, members will earn one WestJet point for every Canadian dollar spent on eligible Sunwing Vacations packages. Each traveller who provides a WestJet Rewards ID will earn points based on their individual share of the package price, excluding taxes, fees and charges.

Members will also earn tier qualifying spend and milestone qualifying spend at a rate of 20 per cent of their individual share of the eligible package price, excluding taxes, fees and charges.

For top-tier members, the integration extends beyond earning. Silver, Gold and Platinum members travelling on a Sunwing Vacations booking can access their day-of-travel benefits when checking in with WestJet, including free checked baggage allowances and priority services.

WestJet Rewards members can also continue to redeem points toward up to the full cost of an eligible Sunwing Vacations package, including taxes, fees and charges, with a minimum redemption of 5,000 points.

The redemption option has been available on eligible Sunwing Vacations packages since early 2024.

The expansion comes as WestJet continues to broaden its loyalty ecosystem beyond flights. Through partnerships with TELUS, Canadian Tire and Skip, members can link accounts to earn and redeem WestJet points through everyday spending.

WestJet Rewards members who book Sunwing Vacations packages are also eligible for complimentary WestJet Wi-Fi presented by TELUS on equipped flights.

The service offers high-speed connectivity for activities such as streaming, gaming, downloading apps and browsing social media.

Travellers can check whether Wi-Fi will be available on their flight through WestJet's Flight Guide within 72 hours of departure.
