Trafalgar launches small group tours

Trafalgar has launched Trafalgar Small Group Tours, a collection of 22 itineraries with a maximum of 18 guests.

The new collection is designed for travellers looking for a smaller guided vacation format, with more local experiences, varied transportation options, more access to Travel Directors and Local Specialists and accommodations tied to the destination.

Trafalgar says the smaller group size allows for more personal experiences while maintaining the structure and support of a guided vacation.

“Small group travel is one of the biggest opportunities we’re seeing in guided touring right now and this collection is our answer to that,” said Melissa DaSilva, deputy CEO and chief sales officer, TTC Tour Brands. 

“These trips are designed for a different type of traveler than a classic tour. Someone who seeks experiences that bring travellers even closer to the people, places and stories that make a destination real. For advisors, that means a new way to serve clients who are looking for something more personal without losing the Trafalgar signature experiences and support they know and trust.”

The collection was developed using customer research and trade feedback.

Itineraries may include smaller vehicles, private transport, trains and local transportation options, along with access to venues, communities and accommodations that may not be available to larger groups.

Trafalgar says the tours are especially suited to active, culturally curious travellers, typically 40 and older, who want more local interaction and responsible travel experiences.

The collection includes San Sebastian and Beyond, which travels from Bordeaux to Bilbao through southwest France and northern Spain.

The itinerary includes a Be My Guest experience at San Antón, a family-owned grill house in Getaria that is open only to Trafalgar Small Group Tours guests. 

Travellers meet the family, learn traditional grilling techniques and take part in a culinary experience rooted in Basque tradition.

The itinerary also includes a historic rack railway climb to La Rhune in Basque Country and a ride on the Petit Train de Biarritz.

Wild Encounters of Borneo includes a conversation and guided visit with Dr. Wong, founder and CEO of the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. 

The itinerary also includes boat transfers and river cruises through the Kinabatangan wetlands.

Best of South Africa includes a visit to a traditional Swazi Chief’s village in Eswatini, where travellers connect with community members, sample local food and take part in a drumming class.

The South Africa itinerary also includes transportation such as safari vehicles, boat cruises, cable cars and 4x4 vehicles.

Trafalgar says the small group tours are an addition to its existing guided vacation portfolio, not a replacement for its classic touring product.

The tours include Trafalgar elements such as Travel Directors, Be My Guest experiences, MAKE TRAVEL MATTER Experiences and service standards, while offering a smaller group format focused on local connection and more flexible movement through each destination.
