Self‑drive holidays in Ireland are the fastest-growing trend, says RIT Vacations

As St. Patrick’s Day sparks renewed interest in travel to Ireland, tour operator RIT Vacations says self-drive holidays are becoming one of the fastest-growing ways for travellers to explore the country.

The trend comes as the company marks its 25th anniversary of organizing trips across the British Isles.

According to the operator, more travellers are choosing driving itineraries that allow them to explore Ireland beyond major cities and spend more time in scenic regions.

“Ireland is perfectly suited for road trips,” said Jonathan Sargeant, director of sales, RIT Vacations.

“Travellers can follow winding coastal roads, stop in small villages, and spend more time exploring landscapes that make Ireland one of the most beautiful destinations in the world.”

Rather than rushing from one landmark to another, travellers are increasingly embracing slow travel and spending several days exploring regions such as the Dingle Peninsula, Connemara, Killarney and Galway.

The Dingle Peninsula is known for its Atlantic coastline and historic sites, while Connemara offers a landscape of mountains, lakes and small villages along Ireland’s west coast.

Killarney provides access to Killarney National Park and the Ring of Kerry, and Galway serves as a cultural hub along the Wild Atlantic Way.

RIT Vacations says its driving holiday itineraries combine independent travel with planned routes, accommodations and local expertise to help travellers explore at their own pace.

“As travellers look for more authentic ways to experience destinations, road trips offer the flexibility to slow down and truly connect with a place,” Sargeant added.

“Ireland is one of the best destinations in the world for that kind of travel.”

Founded in 2001, RIT Vacations specializes in trips to Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales, offering a range of coach tours, rail journeys and self-drive itineraries for Canadian travellers.
