Kensington adds family & multi-gen itineraries as demand grows
(Supplied)

Kensington has introduced a slate of new family and multigenerational itineraries, pointing to rising demand for longer, slower-paced trips that combine cultural experiences with downtime and wellness elements.

“Multigenerational travel continues to shape how families plan vacations, particularly for longer summer trips,” said Helen Giontsis, president of Kensington.

“Both internal and industry research shows that more families are traveling with grandparents, parents, and children together, prioritizing destinations and itineraries that can accommodate a wide range of interests, mobility levels, and travel styles. In addition, we are seeing that families are booking major trips further in advance to secure preferred accommodations, guides, and exclusive access experiences.”

Kensington also cites recent travel industry surveys, including one from IMG Global, that suggest multigenerational trips account for roughly one third of family travel, with summer demand rising for longer stays, private guiding, and itineraries that mix education, cultural immersion and downtime.

New family and “Ultra Luxe” highlights

Italy for Families

Kensington’s Italy family itinerary layers major sights with interactive activities for mixed ages. Highlights include a self-guided gelato crawl in Rome, a guided Colosseum visit paired with a hands-on gladiator training experience, a locally led tour of Florence with a pizza-making class, and a Venice gondola ride followed by a guided mask-themed scavenger hunt.

Italy Ultra Luxe

New Ultra Luxe trips to Italy include private-access style experiences such as expert-led visits to the Colosseum and Roman Forum with an archaeologist, a self-drive along the Appian Way in a vintage Alfa Romeo with guide support, a private Chef’s Table on the Amalfi Coast, and a private yacht day around Capri and the Li Galli Islands.

Japan Family Fun

A new Japan family itinerary spans Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto and Osaka, blending pop culture and hands-on activities. Kensington says families can explore Tokyo’s anime scene through a manga drawing workshop, cruise Lake Ashi aboard a pirate-style ship with views of Hakone’s volcanic landscape, visit Kyoto temples and take part in a samurai sword dance experience in traditional attire. In Osaka, the itinerary includes a guided street-food stop in the Shinsekai district.

Greece

Kensington is also promoting two contrasting Greece options. Unseen Greece: A Hidden Island Getaway centres on Athens, Paros, Mykonos and Milos as an island-focused trip positioned as a more immersive, less conventional route. Kensington lists the itinerary at 12 days from $44,950 per person. A second option, Greece’s Peloponnese: Athens to Arcadia, focuses on mainland history and countryside, starting in Athens before continuing to Nafplio, Olympia, Sparta and Monemvasia, with visits including Olympia and Ancient Messene and time in Arcadia’s mountain villages.

Costa Rica Rainforest to Beach for Families

Designed for active families, this itinerary includes rainforest hanging bridges, wildlife viewing, Arenal Volcano experiences, farm visits, cloud forest walks in Monteverde and beach time in Manuel Antonio.

New Zealand Family Vacation

Kensington’s New Zealand family trip covers Auckland, Rotorua and Queenstown, combining outdoor adventure with cultural experiences. Stops include Hobbiton and the Waitomo glowworm caves, geothermal sites at Wai-O-Tapu, ZORB in Rotorua and a Māori cultural experience and feast. On the South Island, the itinerary includes Milford Sound, Queenstown gondola and luge, jet boating on the Dart River and canoeing through beech forests.

“Slow travel,” wellness and heritage-led trips

Beyond family itineraries, Kensington says it has expanded options built around slower pacing, rest and nature-based experiences.

Personal Heritage Journeys

Kensington says it has expanded its partnership with Ancestry, pairing each trip with a Kensington Destination Expert and a professional genealogist from AncestryProGenealogists.

Itineraries are built around family-history research and visits tied to a traveller’s heritage.

Kensington says that with Ancestry’s expanded ability to trace African genealogy, it has introduced new West Africa trips including Ghana, with highlights such as the Door of No Return and visits to Accra, Kumasi and Elmina

Additional heritage-focused journeys are offered for families with roots in Poland, Germany, Scotland, Italy and other European destinations.

Costa Rica Wellness Escape for Couples

Kensington’s couples-focused wellness trip emphasizes slower pacing, resort stays with volcanic waters, private nature walks around Arenal, a private catamaran cruise and curated dining.

Swiss Alpine Villages & Bernina Express

Positioned around “slow travel,” this Switzerland-to-Italy route runs through Zurich, Chur, Lenzerheide, Celerina, St. Moritz, Como and Milan. Kensington says activities include exploring Chur’s Old Town, learning the alphorn with a local musician, visiting Arosa’s Bear Sanctuary, trekking to the Morteratsch Glacier, meeting Swiss cheesemakers, and riding the Bernina Express en route to Lake Como.

Southeast Asia Explorer & Mekong River Cruise

This itinerary combines land touring with a seven-night Mekong River cruise. Kensington says travellers will explore Hanoi’s food scene, visit floating markets and villages along the Mekong, and tour Cambodia temple sites including Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm and Bayon. The company notes Mekong cruises operate from August through April, with departures varying by cruise line.
