Intrepid Travel has announced that it will resume trips to Egypt starting April 1, following a temporary suspension earlier this month.

As previously reported, the company paused all Egypt departures two weeks ago amid regional uncertainty.

During that period, 161 travellers cancelled their trips, with the majority of those departures originally scheduled for the busy spring travel season between March and May, the company noted in a press release.

Despite the disruption, demand for Egypt had been surging prior to the pause, the company added.

Intrepid reported that premium Egypt departures in February increased by 196 per cent year-over-year, signalling strong interest in the destination.

“Travel has always been one of the most powerful ways to support local communities,” says Leigh Barnes, president of the Americas at Intrepid Travel, in a statement. “Being able to return to Egypt means visitors can experience an incredible destination while helping bring much-needed income back to the guides, small businesses and families who rely on tourism.”

For travellers affected by flight cancellations due to Middle East airspace closures, Intrepid confirmed that customers will receive a 100 per cent credit for the land portion of their trip.

Meanwhile, Intrepid has extended cancellations for trips in Jordan and Oman until April 15, citing current travel advisories and on-the-ground conditions.

Customers whose trips have been cancelled are being offered several options, including the ability to rebook to another destination, receive a 100 per cent credit for the value of the land components of their trip, or request a refund minus a 20 per cent fee to cover unrecoverable costs.

Travellers covered under package regulations in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region will be entitled to a full refund.
