An evening in Weimar

Although more than 350 travel professionals have travelled from far and wide to represent their brands on the trade show floor of Germany Travel Mart (GTM), it would be no exaggeration to say that on Day 2, it was the evening event in Weimar that stole the show.

Streets throughout the historical town (of which many of its buildings are recognized by UNESCO World Heritage) were closed down to accommodate the hundreds of GTM guests, many of whom were bused over from neighbouring Erfurt to attend the outdoor walking tour and party, designed to showcase the best of the culture and heritage for which the city is known.

With hotels and historical buildings (such as the Hotel Elephant and Theaterplatz) open to the crowd, the event featured live art installations, a cappella groups, an onion fair opened especially for guests (Weimar's famous onion fair typically takes place in October) and costumed performers. The meal ended with a BBQ bratwurst dinner and live music at the weimerhalle, Thuringia's first congress house.

See below for a gallery of the day's eye-catching exhibitions, and stay tuned for more updates on the GTM this week!
