Contiki has announced its Sea, Safari, South Africa itinerary for 2024.

The company’s newest South Africa tour, it includes visits to nine safari parks, as well as the cities of Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, for less than US$200 per day.

The two-week trip combines the Garden Route with popular wildlife viewing spots Isimangaliso, Hluhluwe and Kruger National Park, where guests will get to sleep under the stars on an exclusive Contiki campsite.

Wildlife experiences include visiting Addo Elephant Park, hippo-spotting on a Lake St. Lucia boat cruise and meeting penguins at a rehabilitation center before they are released back into the wild.

Travellers will embark on numerous morning and evening game drives and will also have the opportunity to go on walking and mountain bike safaris.

Alongside the Big Five—lions, leopard, elephants, rhinos and African buffalo—travellers can expect to see zebras, giraffes, wildebeest and meerkats.

The trip also includes a marine safari in Plettenberg Bay, a visit to the coastal town of Hermanus—considered the best land-based whale-watching spot in the world—and a shark conservancy visit.

Travellers will join a township tour in Knysna, visit a local Zulu village in St. Lucia and explore Eswatini, one of Africa’s smallest countries, to meet with the local community and learn about their culture, customs and everyday life.

“At Contiki we offer travellers our award-winning Make Travel Matter Experiences, which are designed to give something back to the communities we visit, the wildlife we interact with and the planet we share,” says Kyle Junkuhn, Contiki’s operations lead for Africa.

“This trip has included Make Travel Matter Experiences almost every single day, so travellers can be confident they’re having a positive impact on the places we visit.”

The tour's itinerary also includes a trip to the site of Nelson Mandela’s capture, a hike to the Stormsriver Bridge in Tsitsikamma National Park, and visits to the Stellenbosch wineries and the Cango Caves, the continent’s largest underground cave system.

“It’s a wonderfully well-balanced trip,” says Natasha Lawrence, commercial and product director at Contiki.

“You visit some of the continent’s most famous wildlife parks with our passionate guides, who are both knowledgeable and approachable. But it’s also a celebration of South Africa’s wonderful people and culture. If variety is what you like from an adventure, this is definitely the trip for you.”
