Club Med goes green in Mexico

Club Med’s Ixtapa Pacific and Cancun Yucatan in Mexico have both received Green Globe certification in recognition for their management of environmental and social impacts.

Club Med recently committed to eco-certifying 100 per cent of its properties with Green Globe’s international sustainable tourism certification as part of the company's own sustainability program, and this recent recognition brings the rate of certified establishments to 65 per cent.

The Green Globe certification is based on a set of 300 conformity indicators, based upon 40 major requirements covering the three pillars of sustainable development: environmental, social and economic. Certification is granted following a 50 per cent conformity rate with adherence to the organization's compulsory requirements.

Continuous improvement is required to maintain certification, which is awarded annually.
