Air Canada upgrades app to show glanceable, real-time flight updates
Air Canada’s app has been upgraded to provide easy, glanceable, real-time flight updates.
The enhancement utilizes Apple’s “Live Activities” feature, which provides real-time updates directly on a phone’s lock screen, showing relevant information to users at a glance.
Sharing the news on his LinkedIn page over the weekend, Tyler Katz, director, digital product - Day of Travel & CIAM at Air Canada, wrote that this feature has been on Air Canada’s wish list for a while now.
“With Live Activities, we put key flight and day of travel information right on your iPhone or iPad Lock Screen, so you’re always 'in the know,’” Katz wrote.
“It starts by having your boarding pass in the app and activates four hours before departure to provide reminders for recommended airport arrival, before transitioning to a boarding countdown. All the while, flight times and gate information are updated in real time.”
What makes this new feature stand out?
“It tracks the boarding process in real time – from boarding start to the final call,” Katz explained.
Secondly, a tap on the Live Activity brings users directly to their in-app boarding pass.
“We believe this will be a game-changer, keeping every customer informed and ready to board on time with ease,” Katz wrote.
Travellers can download v5.51 of Air Canada’s app now and try the feature out on their next flight.
