Air Canada among earliest adopters of Apple’s new boarding pass
Apple is launching a series of service updates this fall, and Canadians have some exciting enhancements to look forward to—especially with Air Canada on board.
At Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in Cupertino, Calif. this week, the tech company unveiled a revamped Apple Wallet experience that includes a redesigned digital boarding pass.
This new pass offers real-time flight updates, airport terminal maps, baggage tracking, and additional travel-friendly features.
Air Canada is among the first airlines to adopt the upgrade, joining others like Delta, United, and JetBlue.
The new boarding pass has one-tap shortcuts to sharing your flight tracker, launching Maps for directions to your terminal, plus a shortcut to Find My to track your luggage.
With the upgraded Wallet, iPhone users will be able to follow their flights in real time using Live Activities, and easily share those updates with friends and family.
The enhanced boarding pass will also let travellers use Apple Maps to navigate airport terminals, check for available seat upgrades, and even track their luggage via the Find My app—all from within Wallet.
Apple says iOS users will be able to create a digital ID using their passport in Apple Wallet beginning this fall when the new iPhone operating system rolls out.
Though not meant to replace a passport, the digital ID can be used for domestic travel and at supported TSA checkpoints.
The Live Activities widget is also coming to the next version of CarPlay, allowing users to monitor shared flight updates directly from their vehicle’s dashboard in real time.
Canadians will also gain access to Apple Pay installments through Klarna, a new option that will let users split in-store purchases into smaller payments, similar to buy now, pay later (BNPL) services.
