Royalton halts Jamaica arrivals until Dec. 15 amid hurricane damage review
Royalton Hotels and Resorts has issued a Hurricane Melissa update for its properties in Jamaica, saying that arrivals scheduled before Dec. 15 will not be able to be accommodated.
In a Nov. 4 online update, the company said it is still assessing the damage the Category 5 storm caused at its resorts in Montego Bay and Negril.
“We're pleased to share that on-site assessments are showing encouraging progress, though some areas are still under review to ensure full readiness,” the company said.
Still, on-site assessments are showing “encouraging progress” as teams remain dedicated to caring for guests and supporting the restoration process.
“Every member of our staff continues to work diligently to ensure full safety readiness, assist with assessments, and maintain close communication with local authorities as operations move toward full recovery,” Royalton said.
The company said delaying guest arrivals will give Royalton’s teams time to complete preparations and ensure the level of safety, comfort, and service the brand is known for.
To support guests, Royalton has waived all cancellation fees and penalties for reservations scheduled for arrival through Dec. 15 at its Montego Bay area and Negril resorts.
“Guests are welcome to make a new booking at any of our Royalton Hotels & Resorts properties, and as a gesture of appreciation, all relocated or rebooked reservations originally planned for Jamaica will receive a welcome amenity and a bottle of wine in-room upon arrival,” the company said.
“Our focus remains on the well-being of our guests, our teams, and the surrounding communities as we continue to support national recovery efforts. Jamaica holds a very special place in our story, and we are inspired by the resilience, warmth, and determination of its people.”
The company noted that it will remain in close contact with guests and will continue to share updates as restoration progresses.
As previously reported, Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett has established a clear goal for Jamaica’s tourism sector to be fully operational by December 15, 2025.
To achieve this, the Ministry has launched a high-level Hurricane Melissa Recovery Task Force, alongside the Tourism Cares, to coordinate efforts between the public and private sectors.
“Recovery cannot be left to chance. We are aligning marketing, communications, infrastructure repairs, aid, logistics, and every enabling support behind a single objective: full industry operation by December 15,” said Minister Bartlett in a statement. “Progress will be tracked through the Ministry of Tourism with regular public updates, so workers, visitors, and partners can plan with confidence.”
