Riu Palace Mexico reopens after major renovation, adds Elite Club
Riu Palace Mexico has reopened in Playa del Carmen following a comprehensive renovation that introduces a new look, upgraded accommodations and RIU Hotels & Resorts’ premium Elite Club concept.
The beachfront resort, located in the residential community of Playacar, first opened in 1999 and was the first Riu Palace property in Mexico.
The renovation encompasses the hotel’s 434 rooms, public spaces, restaurants and leisure facilities. Guest rooms now feature softer tones, natural wood finishes and warm lighting, along with living areas and private terraces or balconies.
The resort has five swimming pools, including a new infinity pool reserved for Elite Club guests.
Elite Club debuts
Of the resort’s 434 rooms, 56 are designated for the Elite Club category, including 30 with private pools.
Elite Club guests have access to a dedicated reception and personalized check-in, premium beverages, à la carte breakfasts, an exclusive dinner restaurant and a private infinity pool and bar.
The refreshed lobby, meanwhile, combines dark marble floors and columns with lighter architectural elements, crystal chandeliers and large glass arches overlooking the resort’s gardens.

Nine restaurants, six bars
Dining is a major component of the renovated property, with nine restaurants available.
Options include international buffet Don Julián, poolside restaurant Guacamole, Asian-inspired Miyagi, Italian restaurant La Dolce Vita, gourmet venue Krystal and the Steak House. The lineup also includes the Elite Club restaurant, Tiki Taco station and Pepe’s Grill.
Six bars are spread throughout the resort, including the Cubano lobby bar, Capuchino patisserie and ice cream parlour, a 24-hour sports bar, Los Mariachi plaza bar, Tequila swim-up bar and the Elite Club bar.
Guests also have access to RIU Party themed events at the neighbouring Riu Tequila.

RIU expands in Quintana Roo
The reopening comes as RIU continues to invest in its portfolio in Quintana Roo.
The company currently operates 23 hotels in Mexico, 15 of which are in the state. RIU says its Quintana Roo properties account for nearly 8,000 of its approximately 14,000 employees across Mexico.
Riu Palace Mexico’s reopening follows the renovation of Riu Palace Peninsula in Cancun’s Hotel Zone.
RIU is also preparing to open Riu Palace Quintana Roo, its fourth property in Costa Mujeres.
