RIU expands Mexico portfolio with new properties

It’s been a busy fall for RIU Hotels in Mexico, with the recent opening of Riu Palace Costa Mujeres and the grand opening of Riu Palace Baja California this weekend.

The new Riu Palace Costa Mujeres, RIU’s 19^th property in Mexico and second in Costa Mujeres, is located by the beach of Bahía de Mujeres. Located just north of Cancún’s hotel district, guests will have quick access to some of the region’s most iconic places, sincluding the Isla Mujeres turtle conservation centre, the pre-Mayan ruins of El Meco and the archaeological remains found at El Rey.

Architectural advancements

Riu Palace Costa Mujeres offers open and modern communal areas where guests can relax in intimate surroundings; lively entertainment programs; and a wide range of cuisine including breakfast buffets and show-cooking stations in its main restaurant, “Spaces.” Grilled meats are on the menu in the pool restaurant, “Tastes”, as well as Mexican, Japanese, Italian and fusion cuisine in the themed restaurants, “Zarape”, “Japan”, “Roma” and “Krystal”, which promise to turn guests’ stays into true foodie experiences.

The new hotel has five pools, two of which have swim-up bars, and a reserved area on the beach with lounge chairs and umbrellas. The property also offers varied entertainment programs for adults, sports activities with RiuFit and art with RiuArt, as well as live shows, a gym and a spa. Its location next to Riu Dunamar means guests can enjoy Pacha nightclub, RiuLand kids’ club and Splash Water World, a water park with thrilling slides. Free WiFi is also available throughout the property.

With the opening of this 670-room property, RIU has “introduced a new architectural concept,” said RIU CEO Luis Riu, CEO, describing the innovative layout of the resort’s bars and restaurants which allows guests to enjoy spectacular views of the sea.

“With this new hotel, we wanted to fulfil a wish expressed by some of our most loyal customers: to have clear views of the Caribbean while they enjoy food and cocktails,” Riu said. “To do this, the building has been designed in an innovative way, creating terraces, dining rooms and cozy corners on the first floor to improve our guests’ experience.”

The next example of this new architectural trend will be Riu Palace Baja California, which opens its doors on Dec. 1. The hotel will be the company’s 20^th Mexico property.

The RIU Group has an ambitious expansion plan for the next five years, with a strong commitment to new destinations, especially in Asia and Africa, and large global cities where it plans to open Riu Plaza urban hotels.
