Palladium pouring €500M into hotel expansion project in Jamaica
New details have surfaced about a new Palladium hotel that is being built in Hanover parish on the northwestern tip of Jamaica.
Groundbreaking for the enhanced Palladium took place Tuesday morning (Feb. 18), according to local news outlet, the Jamaica Gleaner.
The hotel expansion will feature a golf course, an entertainment centre, and a convention centre. Additionally, 600 housing units will be built to accommodate hotel workers.
Palladium Hotel Group is reportedly investing more than 500 million Euros to transform its property in Point, Hanover.
“This is not only our biggest investment to date but also a statement of our commitment to excellence,” said Vice President of Palladium Hotel Group, Abel Matutes, at the project's groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday morning, as reported by the Gleaner.
The event was attended by Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness, Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett, Opposition Spokesperson on Tourism Senator Janice Allen, and others.
The development will add 950 new rooms to the existing 1,054 room count, officials said.
The expansion will also include a convention facility designed to accommodate events for up to 1,000 guests, along with spaces for conferences and meetings.
Officials noted that the new hotel will also incorporate advanced energy solutions, water conservation measures, and a plan aimed at reducing environmental impact.
Palladium will also launch educational initiatives and skill-development programmes for locals, including training in modern farming techniques.
"Jamaica continues to attract the interest and confidence of investors and today we saw yet another demonstration of this when we broke ground for another project by the Palladium Hotel Group. This project will boost our tourism product and create opportunities for Jamaicans," wrote Prime Minister Holness on the X social media platform on Tuesday. The Palladium is one of three hotel projects set to break ground in Jamaica this year."
The other two include a 1,000-room property in Runaway Bay, St Ann, from Bahia Principe; and a 700-room Secrets in Richmond, St Ann.
