Nobu plans hotel, restaurant and residences in Portugal’s Eastern Algarve

Nobu Hospitality has announced plans to open a new hotel, restaurant, villas and branded residences at Monte Rei resort in Portugal’s Eastern Algarve.

Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the Nobu Hotel anticipated to welcome its first guests in 2029.

The project will be Nobu’s second destination in Portugal and will form the centrepiece of a broader investment program led by asset manager Norfin. 

The program spans hospitality, residential accommodations and leisure amenities, with a beach club planned as a future addition.

Set across more than 1,000 acres of countryside, Monte Rei is centred around a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course.

The planned Nobu Hotel will feature 100 rooms and suites, a signature Nobu restaurant and a selection of guest amenities.

The development will also include 21,000 square metres of Nobu villas and branded residences.

Monte Rei has operated for nearly two decades, building its profile around golf, residential living and its location in the Eastern Algarve. 

The next phase of development is intended to establish the property as a more complete year-round destination for residents, members and hotel guests.

DSA Architects and Rockwell Group have been appointed to oversee the project’s architecture and design. Rockwell Group is a longstanding Nobu partner.
