IHG tops 200 hotels in Canada as expansion accelerates
IHG Hotels & Resorts has surpassed 200 open hotels in Canada, marking a milestone as the hotel company expands its footprint across the country.
The company said the achievement comes as Canada's tourism sector continues to rebound.
Destination Canada is forecasting visitor spending will rise six per cent year over year in 2026 to more than $140 billion, driven in part by a resurgence in domestic travel across urban, suburban and secondary markets.
“Reaching 200 open IHG hotels in Canada is a testament to the strength of our brands, the dedication of our teams and the trust our owners place in us,” said Jolyon Bulley, CEO, Americas for IHG, in a press release.
“With a balance of major metropolitan cities and scenic natural landscapes, Canada offers a stay for every traveler and occasion. We remain focused on capitalizing on this building demand and delivering the right brands in the right places that meet evolving guest needs.
Upcoming projects
IHG plans to build on its current portfolio with nearly 40 additional hotels in its Canadian development pipeline.
Six new hotels are scheduled to open before the end of 2026, including Holiday Inn, Candlewood Suites and Staybridge Suites properties in Barrie, Aurora East, Pembroke and Woodstock.
The planned openings follow the addition of seven Canadian hotels in 2025, including a Crowne Plaza in Toronto and four Staybridge Suites properties.
The company's Canadian expansion also includes the rollout of newer brands. Its premium voco hotels brand recently signed its first Canadian properties, with hotels planned for Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Niagara Falls.
Meanwhile, IHG's midscale Garner brand is set to enter the Canadian market in 2027 with three hotels planned for southern Alberta, including Red Deer, Medicine Hat and a location near Calgary International Airport.
