Iberostar Hotels & Resorts has opened Iberostar Selection Riviera Cancun, located near Puerto Morelos in the Riviera Maya

The resort began operating November 1.

It marks the company’s 12th hotel in Mexico.

The property has 444 suites.

Room types include family rooms, swim-ups with pool access and oceanfront suites.

Dining options include an international buffet, a pizzeria and four specialty restaurants: L’Oliveto (Italian), Nopal (Mexican), a Caribbean restaurant and Martinete (Spanish).

There are six bars, including three swim-ups, plus a Star Café.

“We are pleased to strengthen Iberostar’s presence in Mexico, a key destination in our international growth strategy. This new project reflects our commitment to excellence and to creating unique experiences for every guest," said Phil Mc Aveety, CEO of Iberostar Hotels & Resorts.

"It also reaffirms our dedication to developing local talent, promoting a model of responsible tourism that generates long-lasting value for communities, destinations and the industry.”

Iberostar says the resort is intended for both couples and families.

It is positioned as a base for travellers visiting reef and cenote attractions in the region.

The company reports that Iberostar Selection Riviera Cancun adds to its total of more than 4,400 rooms in Mexico and more than 5,800 employees across its properties in the country.

The project is expected to create approximately 650 jobs.

The resort will operate without single-use plastics in the guest experience.

It will have purified water stations, offer responsibly sourced seafood and run a waste-sorting program under Iberostar’s Wave of Change framework.
