Fairmont Hotels and Resorts is building a second hotel in Calgary – this one near Stampede Park.

The announcement comes 112 years after its Palliser hotel first debuted at 9th Avenue and 1st Street S.W.

The company didn’t state an exact location for the 225-room hotel, but said the project, dubbed Fairmont Calgary, will be located in the city’s greater downtown area and “is a direct beneficiary of the Stampede Park transformation project, a major revitalization of Calgary’s Culture and Entertainment District.”

“We are honoured to play a role in this incredible new property at such a pivotal moment in Calgary's development. Adding a second property in this flourishing city where the beloved Fairmont Palliser currently resides will be a significant achievement, and reinforces Fairmont's leadership position in Western Canada, as well as strengthens our long-term brand commitment to Calgary as a destination,” said Omer Acar, CEO, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, in a press release.

“Fairmont Calgary will become an exciting new social hub for the local community, hotel guests and residents alike, blending both tradition and modernity.”

The mixed-use development will feature a spa, meeting facilities, and 100 high-end residences. It is being developed in partnership with Truman and is expected to open in late 2031.

Last July, representatives from Marriott International, Louson Investments Ltd., Calgary-based developer Truman, and the Calgary Municipal Land Corp. revealed concept renderings for the 69-storey W Calgary tower and the 62-storey JW Marriott Calgary hotel.

The development is planned for a city-owned parking lot across Macleod Trail from the Victoria Park–Stampede LRT station.
