Club Med Ixtapa closes, property sold to new owners
After more than 40 years, Club Med has decided to sell its Ixtapa property in Mexico.
The all-inclusive resort, located in between the Pacific Ocean and the mountains of the southern Sierra Madre, opened in 1983 and has undergone several renovations since then, including a significant one in 2021 and a prior one in 2007 that aimed to make it more family-friendly.
“Our goal is to evolve with our guests. As travel trends, sustainability needs, and destination demands shift, we adjust our portfolio to continue delivering exceptional experiences in the world’s most sought-after locations,” Club Med wrote in a notice posted to the property’s website, which reads “This resort is now closed.”
Spread across 37 acres, along a 2,400-foot stretch of beach, the property offered guests plenty of room to roam, unlimited culinary options, land and water activities (like pickleball, sailing, and flying trapeze), destination excursions like deep sea fishing, and active kids' clubs.
In its closing notice, Club Med reassures guests that it remains committed to pioneering new destinations in North America and around the world.
“We look forward to welcoming you and our mutual guests at another Club Med resort soon,” the company writes.
