Club Med Cancun Yucatan shows off its new look

Club Med Cancun Yucatan shows off its new look

Welcoming guests for more than 40 years, Club Med Cancún Yucatán is a testament to the value of regular investment in an established property.

Opened in 1976, the property was the first resort to settle in Cancún – and with the latest renovations, the Village remains more current than ever. During a recent visit, PAX explored the results of this upgrade over three days.

A completely renovated 5 Tridents area

Club Med Cancún Yucatán is a 4-Trident Village, and the 436-room complex also contains a 5-Trident Premium Private Area, Club Med's highest level of service.

This section, called Jade, includes 50 rooms which have undergone a facelift – and the results are beautiful. The mauve and fuchsia adorning the bedding complement the blue and green of the walls, reminiscent of the tones of the sea surrounding the place.

The well-equipped rooms at Jade feature a large flat-screen TV, a daily refilled mini bar, an espresso machine and a private balcony. A concierge service is also available at all times by contacting the exclusive Jade section reception. Room service for lunch is also included.

A small oasis in the Village, Jade also highlights outdoor spaces reserved for guests wearing the golden bracelet, the key to access the 5T space. Travellers will be able to cool off in the attractive swimming pool or to bask on its perimeter in one of the inviting cabanas.

The image is complemented by an equally inviting lounge bar, whose bright and shimmering colours will attract anyone who wants to have a drink, have a light meal in the morning or curl up in the chairs to chat while having a direct view of the ocean.

Surrounded by the sea on one side and the jungle on the other, visitors to the Jade section will surely feel privileged.

Please note that by the end of November, all rooms at Club Med Cancún Yucatán have been renovated.

The arts of the table

Eating well is one of the recurring promises in Club Med's proposal, no matter where in the world.

The Cancún Yucatán Village is no exception to the rule with its buffet restaurant, the Hacienda, offering a good mix of diversity and emphasizing quality over quantity: portions are already prepared on the counters, a good initiative in our opinion, allowing guests to try more dishes.

But the big culinary draws at Club Med Cancún Yucatán are its the two specialty restaurants.

The Taco Arte Beach Lounge brings a new concept to the Village with varied Mexican specialties served nightly à la carte. The dishes are meant to be shared and we find ourselves quickly ordering three or four different options, just to get a taste of traditional Poblano mole, the fish of the day, the famous ceviche or the wide range of tacos offered. At noon, Taco Arte takes on a buffet-style atmosphere reminiscent of a local market.

The restaurant is also the ideal spot for breakfast along the water's edge, under the first rays of the sun. A completely revamped bar gives the Taco Arte Beach Lounge a very pleasant relaxed atmosphere throughout the day.

Estancia, the property’s Argentinian Steakhouse, has also been improved. Located right next to the main lobby of Club Med Cancún Yucatán, Estancia now includes a perfect terrace to enjoy the grill, where main courses are served with a choice of starters and followed by a wide array of desserts.

Club Med’s offering of fine wines has been expanded thanks to the arrival of La Bodega, the village's brand new cellar.

For $30, guests can also attend a tequila tasting workshop. The playful and informative session allows you to learn more about the production, the nuances and the way to appreciate the iconic drink.

A new look

All areas of Club Med Cancún Yucatán have seen upgrades in the latest round of renovations.

Thus, the central area of the complex also has a new look. This is the case for the pool which has had its coating refurbished, just like its deck.

Las Velas, the property’s outdoor pool and beach bar, has been completely redesigned, whether in the lounge or outdoor theater configuration where guests can attend some evening performances during their stay.

Activities galore

Club Med's all-inclusive formula is recognized around the world for the generosity of the range of activities offered at no extra cost.

Examples include snorkeling on the coral reef, catamaran, windsurfing, paddle boarding and yes, even water skiing.

Added to this are tennis, flying trapeze, yoga, dancing, petanque, archery, a fitness center and much more.

For those who would like to venture out of the complex, a tour desk will satisfy the cravings elsewhere.

As part of our short stay, we visited the site of the Mayan ruins of Tulum and a cenote. Note that one of the Village’s strong points is to offer exclusive transportation to Club Med customers to and from tour sites.

The 12.4 million euro renovation will culminate in July, with the addition of 60 new Aguamarina family rooms, a third pool and another bar, at which Club Med Cancún Yucatán will fully display its new look.
