Broadview Hotel toasts its grand reopening
Murray Henderson, general manager, The Broadview Hotel.

After three years of painstaking restoration work, the Broadview Hotel in Toronto’s East End celebrated its reopening yesterday evening with a reception at its new patio overlooking the city, The Rooftop. Guests were treated to a tour of the renovated property by its general manager, Murray Henderson, before enjoying drinks and canapes atop the hotel.

Intensive work went into the redevelopment of the property, whose origins date back to 1891; as well as completely restoring its façade, building co-owners Streetcar Developments and Dream Unlimited Corp. oversaw the complex process of what Henderson described as ‘[putting] a new building into an old skin.’

The building’s historical designation and significance remained at the forefront of developers’ minds during its restoration: a nod to its legacy is featured in the hotel staircase, with murals on each landing depicting its colourful history.

The hotel hosts 58 rooms, each including its own record player with a vinyl collection – and guests can ask for more at the reception desk. Each room also features media streaming device Google Chromecast, allowing guests to an expanded library of movies, TV shows, music and more.

After guests got the grand tour, they ascended to the hotel’s new patio, The Rooftop, featuring scenic views of the Toronto skyline and complimentary champagne to toast the grand reopening. The good news for the public is that the hotel intends to keep this impressive new space as accessible as possible, with a separate event venue opening on a lower floor to accommodate private functions and gatherings.

Henderson also advised travel agents to keep their ears peeled for further communication about the hotel from travel agencies. “Over the summer, as we wrap up getting everything operational and running smoothly, then we’ll start reaching out to all the travel agencies and making sure that everyone is aware of us,” he told PAX.
