A select group of travel agents escaped the (hopefully) final blast of winter last night, with a closer look at the new UNICO 20˚87˚Hotel Riviera.

The exclusive event, co-hosted by Air Canada Vacations, welcomed nearly 30 agents to downtown Toronto to learn more about the new property, which opened its doors on March 1. Sarah Smith, AIC Hotel Group’s business development manager for the Toronto area, told PAX that the new hotel marks the beginning of a new brand for AIC, offering a luxury spin on the all-inclusive concept. Describing the concept as “relaxed luxury,” Smith said that the focus on the local culture of the Mayan Riviera is evident in everything from the room design and décor to art and even the staff uniforms.

“It’s a totally different experience than the other all-inclusives out there,” Smith said of the property, which has seen strong bookings during its first month. “It’s culturally immersive, infusing local culture into everything we do, from the artwork around the resort to a strong focus on food and beverage. It’s a brand new concept created to offer something new in the market.”

The adults-only property’s 448 rooms – 90 per cent of which feature an oceanview, Smith said – come in two room classes (Alcoba and Estancia) along with the two-bedroom Villa 20˚87˚. Five restaurants, including those offering Mediterranean and Japanese fare, along with three bars and three pools all offering different vibes for different guests, Smith explained.

As part of the all-inclusive package, a selection of tours along with spa and golf course access are included (full details are available at www.unicohotelrivieramaya.com).

For travel agents, a special introductory rate for their clients is still available until May for travel until Dec. 31, 2017. In addition, UNICO bookings qualify for agent bonuses through AIC’s Amplified Rewards program, starting at $225 per room.

Guests can also download the 20˚87˚ Experience app to their phones, which allows users to learn more about the property during their stay, Smith said.

Krista Cardona, Air Canada Vacations’ area sales manager for the Greater Toronto Area, said that the property is offered through ACV’s 18+ and Spa categories and with a focus on destination weddings at UNICO 20˚87˚Hotel Riviera, travellers can take advantage of ACV’s current Group special.
