AmaWaterways hosts TTAND’s top travel advisors on Colombian river cruise
AmaWaterways recently welcomed the The Travel Agent Next Door’s (TTAND’s) leadership team, top-performing travel advisors, and a select group of supplier partners aboard the AmaMagdalena for an unforgettable seven-night journey through Colombia.
Hosted by Ama’s Sandra Gardiner, director of sales, Meline Hakobyan, manager of national accounts, and Juan Cardenas, cruise manager, the exclusive sailing took guests from Cartagena to Barranquilla along the Rio Magdalena, where the luxury river cruise company began sailing just last year.
With the ship dedicated entirely to the group, participants enjoyed a uniquely intimate experience while exploring one of river cruising’s newest and most exciting destinations.
Throughout the voyage, guests were fully immersed in Colombia’s rich culture and traditions.
From lively Cumbia music and dancing to exceptional coffee and outstanding cuisine, every aspect of the journey showcased the warmth and magic of the region.

Encounters with local fishermen, distinctive modes of transportation, and centuries-old customs offered meaningful insights into daily life along the Magdalena River, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
The experience was particularly memorable for TTAND’s top-performing travel advisors, who were recognized and celebrated throughout the sailing.
The combination of cultural discovery, exceptional hospitality, and camaraderie created an atmosphere that highlighted both the achievements of the advisors and the unique appeal of Colombia as a travel destination.

“When we first looked at where to go on this top-performer trip, I approached AmaWaterways about Colombia as it’s a new and unique destination,” said Flemming Friisdahl, founder and president of TTAND. “When we sat with [co-founders] Kristin Karst and Rudi Schreiner, they explained to me what an amazing destination it was and how much our team would love it.”
“Having just completed the cruise, I can confidently say that the crew on the ship is extremely generous, kind, and very good at what they do. They truly care, even despite us keeping them up late into the night as we celebrated the advisors’ achievements.”
Additionally, the food that was served during the trip was “seriously over the top,” Friisdahl said.

Magic & wonders of Colombia
Carrying just 60 guests, the AmaMagdalena was designed in collaboration with Colombian craftspeople and woodwork specialists to bring the heart and soul of the region on board.
Onboard amenities include a Sun Deck pool, spacious fitness room, a Main Restaurant offering regionally inspired Latin American cuisine alongside Western favourites, and an intimate al fresco specialty dining venue.

Ama’s itineraries, Magic of Colombia and Wonders of Colombia, sail between Cartagena and Barranquilla and include unique cultural highlights such as a private celebration of the world-famous Barranquilla Carnival, a guided heritage tour and exclusive jazz performance in the UNESCO-designated city of Mompox, birdwatching of rare endemic species and a musical and historical exploration of Palenque—the first free town in the Americas.
Optional pre and post-cruise land packages are also available in Medellín, Cartagena and Panama City.

“The launch of AmaMagdalena is more than bringing our guests to a new destination—it’s about creating lasting connections between cultures, celebrating the rich history and natural beauty of the Magdalena River, and offering new opportunities for local communities,” said Kristin Karst, co-founder and chief brand ambassador of AmaWaterways, in a statement last year when the new itineraries launched.
“We’ve seen locals lining the riverbanks, waving and cheering with joy as they see AmaMagdalena. It’s a moment of pride, unity, and shared celebration for us and the communities along this majestic river.”
AmaWaterways recently christened its second ship in Colombia, the AmaMelodia, strengthening the company’s presence in the region.
