Tennis player Jannik Sinner joined guests aboard Explora III during the opening leg of the ship’s Mediterranean Prelude Journey.

Sinner, who recently won Wimbledon and serves as a global brand ambassador for Explora Journeys, was the first guest to sail aboard the new ship.

The voyage travelled from Genoa to Marseille from July 24 to 25, giving guests an early look at Explora Journeys’ first LNG-powered ship.

During Q&A sessions, Sinner discussed the discipline, mindset and philosophy behind his approach to professional tennis.

Guests also participated in the debut of In Balance: A Jannik Sinner Ocean Wellness Program, a new wellness offering developed by Sinner and Explora Journeys that is now available aboard Explora III.

Sessions were led by members of Sinner’s performance team, including Simone Vagnozzi, Darren Cahill, Umberto Ferrara and Andrea Cipolla

Sinner also made appearances during the program.

Anna Nash, president of Explora Journeys, named Sinner the first honorary Diamond Member of Explora Club, the cruise line’s loyalty program.

Members of his performance team also received honorary Diamond membership.

Sinner joined Nash and Capt. Serena Melani, master of Explora III, to officially open the ship’s new padel court.

After cutting the ribbon, Sinner played a friendly rally with his coach.

The opening leg concluded with a charity gala dinner at Fil Rouge, the ship’s French-inspired restaurant.

The event brought together Sinner and representatives from the Jannik Sinner Foundation, MSC Foundation and Explora Journeys.

The first joint initiative between the two foundations raised money for marine education programs for children in Mediterranean communities.

Naming ceremony set for Barcelona

The Mediterranean Prelude Journey will conclude in Civitavecchia, near Rome, on July 29.

Explora III will then travel to Barcelona for its official naming ceremony on Aug. 1 before departing on its maiden journey to Lisbon on Aug. 3.

The ship introduces redesigned public areas, expanded Ocean Penthouses and Ocean Residences and three new dining experiences: The Chef’s Table, The Cellar and Shore Club on Deck 11.

Explora III also features a consolidated Ocean Wellness area on Deck 5 and opportunities for guests to meet members of the cruise line’s leadership and ship-design teams.

The ship is the third of six vessels scheduled to join the Explora Journeys fleet by 2028.
