Virgin Voyages unveils programming for 2026 Solar Eclipse Voyages
(Virgin Voyages)

Virgin Voyages has revealed the full lineup of onboard programming for its 2026 Solar Eclipse Voyages, offering guests the chance to experience a total solar eclipse alongside NASA astronauts, astrophysicists, commercial spaceflight pioneers and science communicators.

Part of the cruise line's “Marvelous Collection,” the adults-only sailings aboard Scarlet Lady and Valiant Lady are designed to place passengers directly in the path of totality during the rare celestial event.

Guests can choose between two itineraries. Valiant Lady will operate a 15-night Solar Eclipse: Iceland & British Isles voyage from Aug. 5-20, sailing from Portsmouth with calls in Dublin, Glasgow, Liverpool, Belfast, Siglufjordur, Isafjordur, Reykjavik and Edinburgh before returning to Portsmouth.

Meanwhile, Scarlet Lady will sail a 12-night Solar Eclipse: Barcelona to Rome itinerary from Aug. 10-22, visiting Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Cannes, Ajaccio, Tuscany/Cinque Terre, the Amalfi Coast, Catania and Rome.

According to Virgin Voyages, the open ocean provides unobstructed views of the eclipse, making the sailings a rare opportunity to witness one of nature's most dramatic phenomena. Total solar eclipses crossing the open Atlantic are exceptionally uncommon.

Science meets sailing

The onboard programming includes talks, Q&A sessions and eclipse viewing experiences featuring experts from the worlds of space exploration and astronomy.

Among the highlights are Out of This World: Living in Orbit, where NASA astronauts will discuss life aboard the International Space Station and their experiences spacewalking, and Virgin Galactic: Ask an Astronaut, featuring Virgin Galactic astronauts alongside Will Whitehorn, who helped develop Virgin's commercial spaceflight program.

Other sessions include Solar Eclipse 101, led by a solar physicist; an Eclipse Photography Masterclass covering techniques for capturing the corona, Baily's beads and the diamond ring effect; and Cosmic Pause: Eclipse Energy Session, which combines dharma teachings with an energy transmission timed to coincide with the eclipse.

Passengers will also be able to choose from three designated eclipse viewing experiences: silent observation, a live musical soundtrack or real-time expert narration.

Eclipse-themed shore excursions

Virgin Voyages is also extending the eclipse theme ashore with a series of curated Shore Things.

In Belfast, guests can visit the Armagh Observatory before enjoying a cider tasting at Long Meadow orchards.

In Mallorca, an astronomy-themed excursion to the Genova Caves combines eclipse education with local culture.

Ibiza's offering includes outdoor yoga and a sound bath in the gardens of Jardines de Palermo, while Isafjordur, Iceland, features a scenic drive along the Troll Peninsula ending with a geothermal soak beneath Arctic skies.

Nathan Rosenberg, chief brand experience, marketing and momentum officer at Virgin Voyages, said the sailings are designed to focus on the eclipse itself rather than simply the cruise.

"Everyone else is selling cabins. We're selling the two minutes the sky goes dark over the ocean, next to the people who've actually been up there,” he stated. “You can't stream this. You can't scroll it. You can't A/B test wonders. You either show up, or you spend the next couple of years explaining why you didn't."

Virgin Voyages' Marvelous Collection is a portfolio of specialty itineraries centred on unique travel experiences. Reservations are now available.
