Virgin, iHeart launch podcast cruises
(Virgin Voyages)

Virgin Voyages and iHeartMedia have launched a new specialty sailing collection designed to attract podcast audiences to cruising, positioning the product as a new sales opportunity for travel advisors.

Called “On Air at Sea,” the adults-only series centres on immersive, podcast-led experiences at sea, with each sailing built around specific shows and their fan communities.

The first voyage, “Stuff at Sea,” will depart Oct. 2, 2026 aboard Valiant Lady on a five-night sailing from New York City to Bermuda

Programming will feature three iHeart podcast franchises: Stuff You Should Know, Stuff They Don’t Want You to Know and Stuff Mom Never Told You.

Onboard programming will include live recordings, behind-the-scenes sessions, meet-and-greets with hosts and themed activations, along with shore excursions in Bermuda.

Virgin Voyages is positioning the concept as a way for advisors to reach new-to-cruise clients, particularly those already engaged with podcast communities.

A new client profile

The cruise line notes that the Stuff podcast franchises command hundreds of millions of downloads from highly educated, high-income, and culturally engaged adults who might not typically seek out a cruise.

On Air at Sea gives advisors a genuine answer to clients asking "why would I cruise?" by focusing on the content they love rather than just ocean views.

The cruise line also highlighted the product’s potential for group bookings, noting that podcast audiences are already organized and motivated to travel together.

Virgin Voyages emphasized its advisor-friendly compensation, noting that it pays among the highest commissions in contemporary cruising with no NCFs (Non-Commissionable Fares).

It also points to its “Always Included Luxury” model, which bundles dining across more than 20 eateries, WiFi, and group fitness classes into the fare, helping to prevent bill shock.

The launch builds on a previous collaboration between the two companies, including a sold-out themed sailing tied to true crime podcasts.

“On Air at Sea gives advisors something rare: a genuine reason to pick up the phone and start a conversation with a client who has never considered Virgin Voyages before. The podcast brings them in. Virgin Voyages keeps them coming back,” says Stephen Hopkins, senior vice president of growth, Virgin Voyages.

“We've spent years building audiences who show up for these podcasts week after week. Partnering with Virgin Voyages gives us a way to show up for them and gives advisors an entirely new way to show up for their clients,” added Debbie Cerrito, senior vice president of business development, iHeartMedia.

Virgin Voyages says additional themed sailings are planned, with future itineraries expected to expand into categories such as comedy, music, wellness and true crime.
