Viking takes delivery of 190-guest river ship, expands European fleet

Viking has taken delivery of the Viking Dagur, the newest addition to its fleet of European river vessels.

Built by Meyer's Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock-Warnemünde, Germany, the 190-guest Longship joins Viking's growing fleet and will operate some of the company's most popular itineraries along the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers.

The ship accommodates 190 guests in 95 staterooms and features the Scandinavian-inspired design elements that have become synonymous with the Viking brand. Among its signature features are the company's patented square bow, which allows for three full passenger decks, the indoor-outdoor Aquavit Terrace, and an asymmetric corridor layout designed to create true two-room suites.

“The arrival of our newest river ship marks another important milestone as we continue to expand opportunities for curious travellers to explore the world in Viking comfort. We look forward to welcoming guests on board this elegant new ship as she begins sailing our itineraries in the heart of Europe.”

The Viking Dagur will sail a variety of European itineraries, including Rhine Getaway, Paris to the Swiss Alps, Christmas on the Rhine, and Christmas on the Rhine & Moselle.

The delivery also reflects Viking's broader fleet expansion strategy. The company expects to add 21 more river ships by 2028, alongside nine new ocean vessels and two expedition ships by 2031.

If those orders proceed as planned, Viking's fleet will grow to 114 river ships by 2028 and a combined 26 ocean and expedition vessels by 2031.
